Jorik Withouck

President

Jorik recieved his degree in Photonics Engineering at Ghent University in 2023. Now, as a PhD researcher for the Photonics Research Group he studies nonlinearities in thin-film Lithium Niobate for applications in Quantum Key Distribution systems. Jorik joined the PSG in October 2023.

Rohan Sharma

Vice-President

Rohan Sharma graduated from European Master of Science in Photonics in 2022 from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Belgium. He is currently a PhD student at Liquid Crystals and Photonics Group at Ghent University. He received a FWO strategic basic research grant to research chiral liquid crystal based photonic devices. Rohan joined PSG in October 2022.

Ruben Van Assche

Neethu completed master of science in Physics from Cochin university of science and technology, India. She is currently working as a PhD student at the Center for MicroSystems Technology (CMST), Ghent University. Her work focusses on the packaging of high power lasers on chip. Neethu joined the PSG in 2024.

Ivo Tanghe

Events

Ivo is a postdoctoral research fellow at FWO working since 2024 on integrated colloidal nanocrystal lasers. His work combines ultrafast spectroscopy with the integration of these materials into on-chip photonic devices. He currently serves as chair of the Optical Material Studies Technical Group of Optica, where he organizes webinars and in-person events for researchers in the field. Beyond the lab, Ivo is passionate about science communication, as demonstrated by reaching the finals of the 2024 PhD Cup, a competition focused on making science accessible to the public.
